Easily one of the most cacophonous musical excrescences of the year,we have to search minutely for the remotest traces of melody and quality. Jaideep Sahni’s Ullu da pattha (Shankar Mahadevan-Ali Zafar),which we hear is making some waves for a few days,is cleverly-written,that’s all.

If a film score should not sound like a pop album or a Sufi one,neither should it resemble a ghazal collection,which this one does in its flavour. Worse,the writing (Amitabh Verma) is familiar in thought and content,and even the bevy of superb singers cannot rise over the dull and over-long songs and music interludes. Even sedate melody can have a punch – check Nikaah.
