KOLKATA: The Bengal police brass has begun reviewing security for Mamata Banerjee,the Chief Minister-in-waiting,with sources saying she has indicated that she does not want officers who had been close to her predecessor Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee around her. Despite being entitled to Z+ security cover,Mamata never relied on the security cover provided by the West Bengal government,instead using Railway Protection Force officials.

Relief for Chandy in palmolein case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Oomen Chandy got a breather from Vigilance on Saturday,which submitted a report in a Special Court in the palmolein case,saying there was no evidence against to proceed against the Congress leader. The probe stemmed from the claim of Congress leader T H Musthafa,second accused the case,that Chandy,as then finance minister,had been privy to the issue.

‘Will discuss UDF poor showing’

KOCHI: A day after the UDF scrapped through to power in Kerala,the Congress admitted that the margin was less than it expected and would meet soon to discuss the reasons for it. “The Congress and UDF will meet to discuss reasons for winning fewer seats,including candidate selection,” said state Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala.

HYDERABAD: The state Congress on Saturday began the post-mortem of the Kadapa and Pulivendula by-poll results with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy meeting losing candidates D L Ravindra Reddy and Y S Vivekananda Reddy. Ravindra lost his deposit in the Kadapa Lok Sabha bypoll,which Jaganmohan Reddy won by a margin of over five lakh votes.
