The Foos Can Fly

When you’ve been around long enough to win multiple Grammy awards,achieve rock-stardom and set the standard for all up-and-coming alternative rock bands,there’s really nowhere else to go,but back to the basics.

For their seventh album,Wasting Light,frontman Dave Grohl and his Foos went back to his garage in California,and recorded the entire 11-track album on analogue. But don’t be fooled by the “recorded at home” tag — Grohl’s garage is every musician’s dream home studio. One of the few bands to have a distinct sound,Foo Fighters have always appreciated minimalism in music. Wasting Light calls you in with a heavy heart with Bridge

burning,reiterating the band’s angst-filled struggle with death and moving on. Grohl’s voice resonates throughout the album and it is more mature in I should have known and Miss the misery.

Pre-released single Rope juggles between loud wails,heavy guitar riffs and softer mellow vocals. White limo packs some hardcore metal muscle. And the band says they know “this is no ordinary life” in Dear Rosemary,an anthem to romance and rebellion. Meanwhile,Arlandria plays it rough with “I don’t care,it’s all the same,watch it all go up in flames”. This album has a broad spectrum that will appeal to everyone,from the social rocker to the long-haired headbanger. Definitely worth a listen.
