The man who filed the FIR in Fridays Ghaziabad violence has disowned the document,saying he did not write it,and that he was misled on its contents.

Abdul Qadir,the muezzin of the local mosque,said Monday that contrary to what the FIR says,he had not seen the torn pages from the Quran being thrown from a train at Adhyatmik Nagar station on Friday afternoon.

The man who actually wrote the complaint at the police station was Zalil-ur-Rehman,a neighbour,Qadir said. It was written in Hindi,a language Qadir cannot read or write,and it was read back to him,Qadir said only what was read to him wasnt what actually appeared in the FIR.

Zalil-ur-Rehman,the neighbour,could not be located on Monday. Local people said he had disappeared soon after the rioting,in which six people were killed. Qadir said he had been living in the area for only a month.

I saw a man throwing pages out of the Varanasi-bound Kashi Express at Adhyatmik Nagar junction… I picked up the pages and noticed they were paras 9 and 10 of the Quran,with abusive words on them, read the FIR.

On Monday,the muezzin claimed that he wasnt at the station,did not know who had found the pages,and that they had been brought to him at the masjid by Rehman.

Zalil-ur-Rehman came to the masjid around 1 pm and showed me the pages. I immediately called the elders of Rafiqabad locality to discuss…, Qadir said. At the police station,Rehman wrote the FIR and insisted I sign. I told him I could not read it,so he read it back to me,but that was not what he had written.

Police officers said the Kashi Vishwanath Express does not stop at Adhyatmik Nagar,and pages thrown from a fast-moving train were likely to be scattered over a large area.
