The LTTEs most vocal supporter here,MDMK leader Vaiko, has been the target of criticism from all around for his extreme stance. But when a group of pro-Tamil students turned their ire on him, even the unshakeable Vaiko was stunned into silence. The leader was at the busy Egmore railway station on Monday night to receive a group of college students from across Tamil Nadu, who were visiting Chennai to protest against the arrests of pro-Lankan Tamil activists. The students came aboard Guruvayoor Express and protested at the 17 stations the train stopped at en route to Chennai. But when Vaiko approached them as a fellow protester, the students shouted slogans against politicians exploiting the issue and asked him to leave. A visibly shaken Vaiko tried to pacify the students, but they were far from impressed. Finally, the police had to ask Vaiko to heed the protesters and leave. Star campaigners turn to multi-role vehicles With 39 Lok Sabha constituencies,Tamil Nadu is a big state. And with elections right in the middle of a fierce summer, star campaigners will give a break to their SUVs and instead pile into fully-loaded mini-vans,which are multi-role vehicles tailor-made for electioneering. A leading company in Coimbatore has already overhauled a tempo traveller for the use of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. As he is recuperating from a surgery, the van has a hydraulic system imported from Germany to lift his wheelchair. It will also have a chemical toilet, quite like the one AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa uses while campaigning. DMK heir-apparent MK Stalin has also left his many SUVs at home, and has instead got himself a van with a revolving podium to address the public. In all,Coimbatore-based Koyas has received 20 orders for such modifications each worth about Rs 20 lakh from across south India. Now MDMK to channel its message through small screen Yet another political party is set to grab a piece of the small-screen action in this state. The MDMK took a decision to start its own channel soon in a resolution adopted during its general council meeting on Thursday. But it was always a matter of when in this state. To begin with, the Sun Group had DMK as its backbone, and its promoter Dayanidhi Maran is M Karunanidhi's grand nephew. Realising the difference between owning a channel as opposed to backing one during the bitter fight with the Marans, the DMK started Kalaignar TV and Kalaignar News. While Jaya TV is backed by the AIADMK,the PMKs Makkal TV has emerged as another popular channel. The Congress, meanwhile, has two channels one promoted by the TNCC president and another by a party MLA. DMDK's Vijayakanth has already announced that his party will soon launch a TV channel obviously named Captain TV.
