Wowing Tharoor

Uniworld is quite amazing: full-service apartments near the IT hub for young professionals.

Not only is Minister of State for Human Resources Development Shashi Tharoor a government functionary but is also one of the most followed politicians on social media. A prolific poster,he tweets mostly about his party work and ministry via his Twitter handle. Some were, therefore, surprised on Wednesday when the minister tweeted about a private venture — of all things,a service apartment for IT professionals. The minister, who wrote that he was at Uniworld in Electronics City,Bangalore, for a session on social media and politics, did not hold back his praise for the complex, going all out by even giving the facilities it has and the rent

it charges from tenants. “Uniworld is quite amazing: full-service apartments near the IT hub for young professionals at 5500 rupees a month(!) w/gym,canteen,movies” the minster tweeted.

MUSIC IN THE AIR

The lunch hosted by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Beijing had an interesting sidelight. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) band had put together a unique selection of Indian music for the visiting delegations that took many by surprise. The music started with the famous Mera Naam Chin Chin Chu Bollywood number that was based on a dancer from Shanghai, followed by an A R Rahman number Roja Janeman and Gore Gore Banke Chorey. The final Indian number that took the case was Baar Baar Dekho,Hazar Baar Dekho. At the end of the meal,Singh went over and felicitated the Chinese band. Later,at a dinner by Chinese President Xi Jinping too Bollywood numbers were played but the star attraction was a Bharatnatyam performance by three Chinese dancers.

WAITING FOR PM

The Prime Minister’s return from China is keenly awaited by Seemandhra ministers who had submitted their resignation letters earlier this month in protest against the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh. Having kept off their respective offices for nearly a month now,the ministers believe that they have managed to register their protest and sent out the right signals in their respective constituency. They now expect that the PM will come back and refuse to accept their resignations and announce some sort of sop for Seemandhra — a face saver to the ministers so as to enable them to resume duty without fear of a backlash back home.

MUSICAL CHAIRS

While the BJP leadership shuffled its Delhi pack by projecting Harsh Vardhan as chief ministerial candidate, the announcement by BJP president Rajnath Singh was literally preceded by a shuffle of chairs between Vijay Malhotra (party’s CM candidate last elections and currently Leader of Opposition in Assembly),Harsh Vardhan and Vijay Goel. While Rajnath Singh waited for Vijay Goel to arrive before making the announcement,Harsh Vardhan and Vijay Malhotra had already taken seats on the dais. When Goel proceeded to their side,he could not find a seat for himself. As Harsh Vardhan vacated his chair for Goel,he got relegated to the corner where a chair had been brought for him. Malhotra then exchanged chairs to make the CM candidate finally sit between him and Goel — once the CM aspirants.
