Ssitting before a television set at her son’s home in Surat,Zakia Jafri swung between smiles and tears on Saturday afternoon as she saw Chief Minister Narendra Modi going in for the Special Investigation Team hearing.

The 71-year-old had moved to her son Tanvir’s house after the Gulberg Society massacre,in which her husband Ehsan Jafri was killed along with 68 others, and as Modi was called by the SIT for questioning in connection with the case, she said with a smile: “I am happy that after so many long years, finally the Chief Minister had to go to the SIT office. We are begging for justice.”

Breaking down at times, she remembered the rosary beads that were half-burnt during the massacre that she still carries.

However, she added, she retained her “full faith” in the SIT.
