Following reports that a UK police team would be visiting India to interrogate Sabeel Ahmed, brother of Kafeel Ahmed, who died while allegedly trying to carry out a terror attack on the Glasgow Airport, his family on Wednesday said it had “nothing to conceal.”

“We are open to the idea (of UK police questioning Sabeel) if the UK team comes down here,” said Zakia Ahmed, mother of Sabeel, who was deported to India on May 8 after serving an 18-month sentence in the UK on charges of trying to withhold information related to the Glasgow attack case planned by his brother and other associates.

She said the family had so far received no intimation from UK authorities about the police team being sent to India to interrogate their son.

“I have learnt this from the media”, she said.

Since his return to India, Sabeel has spent most of his time in the house, meeting friends and family. “We have a big set of family and friends,” she said.

Karnataka DGP Dr Ajai Kumar Singh, heading the Corps of Detectives, refused to comment on reports of the UK team’s visit.

Karnataka police had sent a report on Sabeel Ahmed to the UK police through the Interpol. The report included his activities in India as well as his financial transactions.

Kafeel, an engineer, had attempted to drive a burning jeep into the Glasgow Airport on June 30, 2007, suffering serious burns that later led to his death.

His brother Sabeel was picked up by the UK police for trying to withhold information. Their cousin Haneef was also picked up by the Australian police and subsequently released.
