Power-Hungry Anonymous

Dear Mr Santhanam,
We understand your secret organisation has been carrying out work all over the world on the lines of Alcoholic Anonymous and you have ‘‘cured’’ many a world leader. I want more information urgently. I assure you it will be kept confidential.
— Ms Jayalalithaa

Dear Ms Jayalalithaa
Like Alcoholic Anonymous we have been in the field for a long time. People even with chronic alcohol problems talk about them, which is the starting point of any cure. However in the case of those obsessed with power it is difficult for them to even admit that they have a problem.

We have treated a number of world leaders. George Bush actually went to PHA (Power-Hungry Anonymous) but we convinced him that he actually went to AA and had a drinking problem.

Tell me, how long have you been having this problem?
Raju Santhanam

Dear Mr Santhanam
Firstly, I have no problem as you put it. It is just that others have a problem. People say I am arrogant and crazy about power but I don’t care what they say. Can you cure other people of their perception about me that I am power hungry etc because it is affecting my image?
Ms Jayalalithaa

Dear Ms Jayalalithaa
We can only cure people who think they have a problem. Several former Prime Ministers here have also asked me to cure the perception that they want to be Prime Minister again. Many have been advised not go past Race Course road, the Prime Ministerial abode, because they have had nervous breakdowns just speeding past Race Course road.

The following are some ready reckoners for you:

A) Do you suddenly wake up in the middle of the night and get the feeling you are out of power?
B) Do your hands tremble when you see a chief ministerial chair?
C) Do you get upset when only Cabinet ministers prostrate before you and want to beat up journalists who do not?

If answers to the following is yes you need to get in touch me urgently…
— Raju Santhanam

Dear Mr Santhanam
I have none of the problems you think I have. In fact I dare you to raise these issues whenever you come to Tamil Nadu. The DG of Police is eager to welcome you. A friend is already negotiating for stakes in your company you are advised to stay away from any suggestion that I am power hungry or I sought any information of your Power-Hungry Anonymous programme. I understand you are a journalist. The people of Tamil Nadu have contempt for journalists.
— Ms Jayalalithaa

Dear Ms Jayalalithaa
A thousand apologies madam. I am the last person to even suggest that you are power hungry. Ever since you expressed interest in buying our multibillion-dollar company it has closed down for some inexplicable reason. I have no wish to enter the State of Tamil Nadu much as I would like to. I have no forwarding address so if you do come to Delhi you may not find me. But rest assured I carry a small statue of yours and prostrate before it every day before sunrise.
Vanakkam!
— Raju Santhanam
