Step one: On the instructions of the ICC, the BCCI would now appoint a bio-mechanics expert from the ICC Approved List to work on Harbhajan Singh’s bowling action.
Step two: Harbhajan will have his action scrutinised by the expert over the next six weeks.
• During this period, Harbhajan can continue playing international cricket and cannot be reported.
• Harbhajan is the sixth player to be reported to the ICC under its revised process to deal with potentially flawed actions in 2004. The others were Shabbir Ahmed (Pakistan), Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka), Blessing Mahwire (Zimbabwe), and Abdur Razzaq and Sanwar Hossain (Bangladesh), who have all had their actions reviewed and undergone remedial work to address concerns. Ahmed has been working with ICC Approved List expert Daryl Foster, Murali worked with Bruce Elliott and Mahwire with South Africa’s Tim Noakes.
• When Harbhajan was earlier reported for a suspect action in 1998, he worked with England’s Fred Titmus.
