If Rajya Sabha member D. P. Yadav’s entry into the BJP was greeted with wails of protest, it wasn’t without reason. Because Bulandshahr’s strongman still has over two dozen cases against him though he hasn’t been convicted ever. His running battle with the CBI in the Mahender Singh Bhatti murder case — JD MLA from Dadri, Bhatti was killed in 1992 — has been on for several years now. Yadav maintains he is innocent. ‘‘I’m not a criminal. The Allahabad HC discharged me in the Bhatti murder case,’’ he told The Indian Express.
