Special pujas in temples and prayers in churches and mosques, medical camps, blood donation camps, free distribution of uniform and notebooks to schoolchildren marked the 56th birthday celebrations of Tamil Nadu CM J. Jayalalithaa in various parts of the state today. Though Jayalalithaa herself did not participate in the birthday celebrations, AIADMK cadres vied with each other in organising functions in the state. At the party headquarters, a 56-kg cake was cut. A gomaata (cow) worship was organised in the city while a ‘milk abishek’ was conducted in some temples. An ardent party worker from Erwardi village, Mohammed Ibrahim, even swam in the sea at Ramanathapuram for 101 minutes to wish the CM a long life. — (PTI)
