Spanish players will rake in 480,000 euros ($442,000) a man in prize money if they win the World Cup, Spain’s Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday.

Rfef vice-president Juan Padron travelled out to the Spanish base in Ulsan, South Korea to sign the agreement over incentives with senior members of the squad.

The Spanish team agreed they will receive nothing if they fail to improve on their record in France four years ago and go out in the first round. They will each receive 60,000 euros for making the second phase but there is no extra incentive just for reaching the quarter-finals.

For reaching the semi-finals they will get another 120,000 euros — a total of 180,000 euros — and that total will go up by the same amount again if they make the final. For winning the competition the players will be rewarded with another 180,000 euros a man, making a total of 480,000 euros. Coach Jose Antonio Camacho will be even better off if Spain lift the trophy, as he receives a double share. Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares, who travelled with the squad despite being forced out when he dropped an aftershave bottle on his foot, will also receive the prize money, team captain Fernando Hierro said.
