Chris Gayle made a career-best 153 not out and took two wickets for 21 to guide the West Indies to a comfortable 51-run victory over Zimbabwe in their first one-day international on Saturday.

The West Indies won on the Duckworth-Lewis method after totalling an imposing 347-6. Zimbabwe replied with 173-3 in 34.5 overs before rain washed out the rest of the game.

Lara reached his 18th one-day century in the 41st over and in all he faced 82 balls and hit 14 fours and three sixes. Opener Gayle played the more measured innings, many of his runs coming from straight drives and pulls. He faced 160 balls, hitting 19 fours and two sixes, and grabbed his sixth one-day ton in the 43rd over.

Wavell Hinds and Gayle put on 77 for the first wicket before Hinds drove at a wide delivery from fast bowler Andy Blignaut and was caught behind by wicketkeeper Tatenda Taibu for 28.
