ARNOS VALE, (ST.VINCENT), April 4: The West Indies slow bowlers kept a tight rein on England to limit them to 209 for eight off 50 overs in the third one-day cricket international today.
After winning the toss, the visitors’ innings never gained momentum after the early loss of left-hander Nick Knight (15). West Indies captain Brian Lara, used his slower bowlers to good effect and England could not break the stranglehold. Even with Ambrose nursing a sore back in the pavilion, the visitors only managed 11 fours and a six during the innings.
Alec Stewart and Ben Hollioake consolidated after Knight’s loss to put on 58 for the second wicket. But both fell to Simmons within six runs as West Indies took the initiative.
Graeme Hick (45: 95b, 1×4) and captain Adam Hollioake (31: 49b, 2×4) revived the innings in a patient stand of 75 but never fully looked in command. Mark Ealham chipped in with a run-a-ball 23 towards the end.
