MUMBAI, Dec 13: Living upto their name, Winning Combo did prove to be the winning combination on the opening day of the ABN-AMRO Double Dutch Scramble golf tournament at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club today.
Halfway down the two-day tournament, Chetan Mehta and Mukesh Bhuta, who formed the Winning Combo, had the best card turned out so far with a nett score of 57. 128 golfers teed off today in a tournament that has attracted a record entry of 270 enthusiasts.
Mehta, with a handicap of 20, and Bhuta (24) played to a corrected handicap of 17 (75 per cent of half of their combined handicap) and grossed 74. While they parred the front nine, they scored four-over during their return journey.
Lurking right behind the halfway stage leaders were Fit India Team of Dr Dilip Nadkarni (13) and GB Singh (19) and the Ugar Sugar duo of SK Marwah (22) and Shirish Shirgaonkar (18) with nett 58. While Dr Nadkarni and Singh grossed 70, Marwah and Shirgaonkar tallied 73 for the day.
A stroke behind were The Bold and the Beautiful comprising Mohini Chowdhary (21) and Ranbir Sidhu (13) with gross 72; GAP, formed by the association of Philips Director of Finance Albert Brandt (22) and John Brice (17) with gross 76 and Suresh Bhojwani (11) and Om Navani (18) who made up the Great Balls of Fire and grossed 70.
The father and son combination of Dinesh Patel (also the captain of the Club) and Ajay, did very well to nett 61. However, BPGC President Dilip Dandekar, partnering Rana Kapoor, GM, ANZ Investment Bank did not have a good day as they grossed 83 (72 nett).
