Wipro software unit sales surge

BANGALORE, APRIL 26: Wipro Technologies – the software division of the diverisifed firm Wipro Ltd has registered a 65 per cent jump in sales and other income to Rs 10.42 billion in 1999/2000 (April-March), the company said in a statement on Wednesday. Hardware sales and other income grew 20 per cent to Rs 8.25 billion, while sales at the consumer care and lighting division fell 13 per cent to Rs 3.29 billion.

Wipro’s total revenue rose 28 per cent during the year to Rs 23.13 billion. Profit before interest and tax for the software division, grew 75 per cent to Rs 2.89 billion. The hardware division posted a 27 per cent jump in net before interest and tax to Rs 438 million. But the operating margin for the consumer care and lighting division grew 13 per cent to Rs 519 million. Wipro’s net profit for the full year grew 77 per cent to Rs 3 billion.
