Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said on Saturday that it was in favour of the Indo-US nuclear deal but was opposed to going ahead with it without the consent of the Left parties.
“We don’t want to go ahead with the deal without Left parties’ consent,” NCP national secretary D P Tripathi told reporters after a meeting with CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat in New Delhi.
However, Tripathi said he did not discuss the nuclear deal issue with the top CPI(M) leader. He stressed that NCP was not against the deal. “We are clear about the deal. We are not against it. This is the best possible deal we can get, but the Left parties have a different view about it,” he said.
Tripathi said he discussed with Karat the possibilities of NCP entering the Left Democratic Front in Kerala.
“We have been in LDF earlier but for the past few months we have been out of it. I discussed this issue with Karat,” Tripathi said.
