KOCHI, May 27: The Knock Out World Chess Championship is here to stay. The World Chess Federation (Fide), buoyed by the success of the inaugural edition in Groningen and Lausanne, has approved of the format and has spotted the venue for this year’s edition as Las Vegas. The championship will be held in December, according to Fide vice-president PT Ummerkoya in a fax message.
Ummerkoya, who attended the Fide meeting in Slovenia on May 15 and 16, said the federation also took a major decision to go in for an annual knockout series instead of the two-year cycle.
