LONDON: A cardiac surgeon has pioneered a revolutionary procedure for child heart surgery, the Scottish-based HCI International Medical Centre reported. Dr Tony Corno, director of the centre’s paediatric cardiac programme, has discovered children can endure heart surgery without having their body temperature lowered. Traditionally, heart surgery on the young involves chilling sick and fragile children before operating, a technique known as hypothermia surgery. A quarter of children undergoing such surgery suffer serious side effects.

FLORIDA: A British woman has been charged with “lewd and lascivious behaviour” after she was caught with her neighbour’s 14-year-old son in an apparent elopement from England to the Florida Keys, police said. Tracey Lee Whalin, 33, was charged in a Monroe county court on Thursday. Sean is the soccer-playing best friend of Whalin’s son, Ross.
