Railway Minister Nitish Kumar today finally tabled in Lok Sabha a detailed report on the Godhra incident, a long standing demand of the members who had alleged a cover-up operation by the Government.

The Minister admitted in the report that 19 of the 59 passengers who had died in coach S-6 on February 27 last, still remained unidentified. ‘‘The Railways has not been able to identify fully those travelling in the reserved coaches.’’

Out of the 59 passengers booked in coach S-6, 28 had reportedly escaped unhurt while three were stated to be missing. Eleven people were reported dead and one person was injured grievously.

Eight people were reported to have suffered simple injuries and four could not not be contacted due to incomplete address. Four persons had cancelled their journey after preparation of charts.

This was disclosed after an exercise carried out by 150 railway officials, the report said. It also included names of 62 passengers, who had contacted Railway Claim Tribunal, Ahemdabad, for compensation. Of the 62, two were found to be duplicate. Of these 48 related to death, nine to injuries and three to missing persons.

Four claims of death had been decreed and paid to dependents of the deceased, the report said.
