In The run-up to the elections, Mayawati wanted unhindered access for her vehicles to airport tarmacs when she flew. The Congress-led Government at the Centre agreed. Just as the campaign began, she wanted a separate NSG contingent in Lucknow to accompany her. The Centre gave in. And now it turns out, she also asked for jammers for her Delhi and Lucknow houses in the heat of the Uttar Pradesh campaign. Again, the Centre wasted no time in saying yes. Of course, all that was in tune with the Congress’s strategy to curry favour with her. Eventually, Mayawati didn’t need the Congress to form her government. But for all these favours, the Congress must be hoping that she agrees, for once, to support their presidential nominee.
