According to notifications by the respective district administrations, the people can move out of their residences but will not be allowed to gather for any purpose other than to purchase essential items including medicines and food supplies.
A day after a fresh spate of violence in Manipur caused the death of at least one civilian, the state’s capital Imphal wore a deserted look on Thursday as authorities cancelled curfew relaxation hours in four districts, including Imphal East, West and Bishnupur districts.

For east Imphal, the administration has listed out four areas in which this relaxation won’t be applicable. They are: Ayangpalli Road from Lamlong Bazar to Yonglan Leirak, Imphal River from Thumbuthong to Lamlong bridge via Minuthong, Lnlong Bazar, Yonglan Lehrak to Thumbuthang via Pooja Lampak and Thangapat Mapal.
Wednesday’s violence began when three houses in the Tronglaobi area of Bishnupur district were set on fire by miscreants. The incident triggered more violence, including arson and shooting incidents, in and around Tronglaobi area. One man was killed and two were injured in separate shooting incidents. Following this, the authorities imposed total curfew in four districts.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Manipur on May 29
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting violence-hit Manipur on May 29 to resolve the ongoing ethnic crisis the northeastern state is grappling with. “Union Home Minister Amit Shah would stay for three days and would work to end the ethnic crisis and deliver justice to all the people,” Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said at a press conference on Thursday evening. “We will talk with people at different places and listen to their views and opinions,” Rai said.
On Thursday, Shah appealed to the people of Manipur to maintain peace. He also promised that justice will be served to all sections of society.
