AIADMK petitions CBI for probe into illegal student selection

Anbalagan alleged that some candidates had produced fake sports certificates and got admissions.

Opposition AIADMK has petitioned CBI for a probe into ‘irregularities and scams’ allegedly committed by the government in selecting candidates under sports quota for admission to MBBS course in the 2011-2012 academic year.

Releasing a copy of the petition to reporters,secretary of AIADMK’s local unit A Anbalagan alleged that some candidates with the help of sports associations had produced fake certificates and got admissions in the sports quota.

Parents of some candidates,in their capacity as presidents of certain associations,had got fake certificates for their wards to enable them get admissions,he alleged.

The government has earmarked one per cent quota for students proficient in sports in admission to medical and engineering colleges under government sponsored category.

He also said there was a specific committee to evaluate the genuineness of certificates presented by candidates. But the CENTAC had formed an adhoc committee for evaluation of certificates,bypassing the proper panel.

Anbalagan also demanded that the government should bring out a white paper on the actual details of the current probe and searches the CBI was conducting on alleged irregularities in implementing tsunami rehabilitation project.
