Amid feud in the family, Alagiri calls on Kanimozhi

Alagiri has refused to relent in his campaign against his brother even after his expulsion from the party.

IN the midst of a bitter fight with his younger brother M K Stalin over succeeding their father M Karunanidhi, as the next president of the DMK, expelled party leader M K Alagiri paid a surprise visit to his step-sister Kanimozhi at her residence on Thursday.

The meeting was brief — lasting less than half hour — and what transpired at Kanimozhi’s residence is not known. Her mother Rajathi, Karunanidhi’s wife, was also said to be present.

Alagiri has refused to relent in his campaign against his brother even after his expulsion from the party, and has been on a whirlwind tour across Tamil Nadu visiting some among the cadre and family. However, Kanimozhi, being a lightweight in the party, has little strength to aid Alagiri in his battle.

The meeting came in the backdrop of rumours that the fight between the brothers went beyond politics and was connected to the properties owned by the party trust.
