The AAP on Saturday stepped up the attack on the BJP and called the induction of former IPS officer Kiran Bedi into the party a “face saver for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in case of a defeat”. Raising questions on the BJP’s stand on various issues, the AAP said Bedi had “U-turned” on her stand on several subjects.
“Bedi will act as a cushion between Modi and Kejriwal because the BJP was projecting the two leaders to be in a direct fight in the Delhi polls. The BJP wants to shield Modi and save him from embarrassment in the event of the party’s defeat,” AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh said, “The BJP in its mainfestos, for the Assembly as well as Lok Sabha elections, had promised reduction of electricity tariff by 30 per cent and granting statehood to Delhi. Now they claim that statehood is not an important issue in this election. The BJP and Bedi must clarify their stand on these issues.”
Senior leader Ashutosh said Bedi must come clean on issues of political parties being under the ambit of the RTI, which she “previously espoused”.
“The BJP has been at the forefront of those opposing these moves that bring about transparency. She will have to contend with our questions on principles that she stood for and the BJP was against,” he said.
Meanwhile, the party also said allegations of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri abusing government officials in Pushp Vihar on Saturday morning should be looked into.
Bidhuri reportedly exchanged heated words with officials after being denied permission for a meeting. Delhi BJP media in-charge Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, “No doubt Bidhuri had an argument. But arguments are not always bad. His contention was that it was a party meeting and not a public meeting and so there wasn’t a need for special permission.”
