AS PART OF the nine-year celebrations of the Narendra Modi government, the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha is set to reach out to women beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana from June 3. Addressing them as “Lakhpati Didis”, the party wants them to write a “thank you” note to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The nomenclature is based on the assumption that as owners of a house now, worth at least a lakh, the women were “lakhpatis”.

The “Lakhpati Didi” campaign, also targeted at the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, will continue till June 19.

“There are a large number of women who have got houses under the PM Awas Yojana. They have also got toilets and free LPG connections. They are being called Lakhpati Didi. BJP workers will meet these women beneficiaries, and ask about the change in their lives after getting the house. The party workers will record short videos of the interaction and send that to the party’s central leadership. We will urge them to write a letter– “Dhanyawad Modi ji” — to express thanks to PM for providing houses under the scheme,” BJP Mahila Morcha UP unit president and Rajya Sabha member Geeta Shakya told The Indian Express.

“Those who are not able to write, our party workers will ask for their views and write the same on postcards on their behalf and send those to PM Modi,” she said, adding “photographs of the beneficiaries with their house will also be posted on the NaMo App”.

The BJP has assigned the campaign to its women’s wing under the Maha Sampark Abhiyan that it is running from May 30 to June 30 to mark the completion of the nine years of the Modi government at the Centre.

Another programme that the wing will undertake during the campaign is “Nav-matdata Yuvati Sammelan” under which, the party will reach out to women in the 18 to 25 years category. “Many of them would have voted in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Party will ask them about their experience of the past five years of the Modi government and about their expectations with the government in future. Party will also ask about their political ideology and the reasons aligning with that particular ideology. The party will have interaction on similar points with women who will vote first time in the 2024 polls. The party will tell them what the Modi government has done in the past nine years for women empowerment, their education and safety,” said another party functionary.

The programmes will be organised in every mandal unit of the party in all the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

The women workers will also visit anganwadi centres to meet children and their parents and speak to them about the programmes run by the Modi government for better nutrition. They will also talk about the nutritional benefits of millet.

The women’s wing of the party will also organise “Prabudhh Mahila Sammelan” of local women intellectuals on the lines of similar meetings held by the party.
