The CPI on Thursday demanded withdrawal of Gujarat governments ban on expelled BJP leader Jaswant Singhs book on Mohammad Ali Jinnah saying the action anti-democratic and reflects intolerance to non-RSS ideas. The ban only reflects intolerance to non-RSS ideas. It is an anti-democratic decision, the partys Central Secretariat said in a statement. Observing that CPI and many others may not agree with Singhs views in the book,it said in fact, there is nothing common between Communists and Jaswant Singh. But in a democratic society, everybody has a right to put forth ideas and opinions as long as these are not against national interests. It is a pity that the shadow of RSS is totally covering the BJP like an eclipse after its humiliating defeat in the recent elections, the CPI said. Maintaining that the political opinion of a party should not reflect in state policy,it said while the BJP had a right to expel Singh from the party, their state governments do not have the right to ban books not liked by the party.
