Ex-Cong MP Meghe, sons to join BJP today

At a function in the evening, we will be joining the BJP, said Sagar Meghe.

Former Congress MP from Wardha, Datta Meghe, and sons Sagar and Sameer are set to join the BJP at Wardha on Saturday.
Union Minister for Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari, who is Meghe’s close friend, will induct the three in the party at a programme on Saturday evening.

“At a function in the evening, we will be joining the BJP,” Sagar Meghe told The Indian Express.
Meghes had relinquished the primary membership of the party last month and speculations were rife of their entry into the BJP.
While in the Congress, Datta Meghe served as a minister in the state cabinet. He twice won Lok Sabha polls, from Ramtek and Nagpur. He later quit the party to join NCP, which nominated him to the Rajya Sabha. But after his term got over, the party didn’t renominate him.

Sagar, meanwhile, joined the BJP and was made the MLC.

Datta Meghe quit the party after complaining of ill-treatment and re-joined the Congress along with Sagar and successfully fought the Lok Sabha election from Wardha in 2009.

In 2014, he wanted the party ticket for his son Sagar, who got it but only after winning the controversial primary elections. However, Sagar lost to Ramdas Tadas of the BJP.

Sensing an end to his political career and with a vast empire of educational institutions to look after, Meghe turned to his long-time friend Nitin Gadkari, who has apparently prevailed over some opposition within the party to welcome the Meghes into the party.
