Intolerant DMK is intimidating us in TN: CPM

Tamil Nadu CPM unit secretary alleged his party workers were 'either attacked or being intimidated' by DMK.

Saying the DMK was “unable to stand criticism”,the CPI(M) on Thursday alleged the ruling party in Tamil Nadu was resorting to violence against it.

Tamil Nadu CPI(M) unit secretary G Ramakrishnan alleged his party workers were “either attacked or being intimidated” by DMK men in Madurai and said they had told the police about it.

He told reporters: “It has become routine for CPI(M) workers to be assaulted by DMK men in Madurai. Intimidation on telephone, burning vehicles of party functionaries and making provocative remarks against us in DMK meetings have become common.”

Ramakrishnan said this was due to the constant criticism of the government by his party on people’s issues, which he alleged had earned the ire of the ruling party.

“We have criticised the government on various issues and have pointed out their mistakes. They must take criticism in the right spirit and try to solve people’s problems. Instead, resorting to violence is not proper,” he said.

Party senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP T K Rangarajan described the DMK as “anti-Dalit” for its approach towards Dalit issues in the state.
