Opposition PDP accused the coalition government in the state of creating an 'atmosphere of fear and uncertainty' to discourage people from participating in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

“This was followed up with unfounded statements planted through shady news agencies in papers across the country about warnings of suicide bombings by militant groups to disrupt polls,” the former chief minister alleged.

Addressing an election rally at Lethpora in Anantnag parliamentary segment he said,”though underground organisations (Lashkar-e-Toiba) had denied the deliberate leaks by the intended quarters, there was no let up in creating a fear psychosis in the hope of a low turnout favouring NC candidates.”
