Karnataka CM declines to comment on Reddy arrest

Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law are arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today refused to react to the arrest of former minister and mining magnate Janardhana Reddy by the CBI.

“I don’t want to give my reaction now because Reddy has been arrested by the CBI. I will react only after getting full details,” Gowda told reporters here.

CBI today arrested former minister Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law Srinivas Reddy under the Prevention of Corruption Act after raids on their residences in the early morning in connection with its investigation into illegal mining.

On the resignation from the Assembly of former minister B Sreeramulu, also a close aide of mining magnates Reddy brothers,Gowda said he tried “his best” to convince him against resigning. The BJP high command had also made similar efforts,he said.

The chief minister, however, expressed optimism of finding a solution to Sreeramulu’s resignation, who handed it over to Speaker K G Bopaiah yesterday.
