Khurshid book likely to defend UPA-II rule

Khurshid, sources said, is set to argue there was no wrongdoing in the allocation of licences.

Salman Khurshid, the lawyer-politician who held many key portfolios in the second Manmohan Singh government, is writing a book which is expected to defend the trials and tribulation of the UPA-II government and clear the air on controversies that rocked it.

The Other Side of the Mountain, as the book is titled, will be an attempt to tell the UPA side of the story — be it on the Anna Hazare movement or the scams and controversies that rocked the UPA-II government, especially the 2G scandal.

The 2G spectrum licence allocation scandal is back in news following former Union minister P Chidambaram’s remark that the UPA government should have cancelled licences once the scandal came to light and that he had then suggested that as an option.

Khurshid, sources said, is set to argue there was no wrongdoing in the allocation of licences.

The former foreign minister was also one of the government representatives handling the Anna agitation.

The book is expected to tell readers about double-speak and deceit of some of the Team Anna members and details of the government’s tumultuous engagement with them. Asked whether the book would hit the stores before the Delhi Assembly elections, Khurshid said it will depend on when the elections are held.
