Congress leader and Union Minister K C Vengopal on Sunday said the LDF government in Kerala was trying to corner votes by “hollow promises” after proving a “failure” in all vital fronts in the past five years.
Inaugurating the assembly election convention of Congress candidate M M Agasthy in Peermade in Idukki district,Venugopal said the voters were wise enough to recognise LDF’s ploy and would deal the front a “crushing blow” in the April 13 Kerala assembly polls.
“On the eve of the elections, the LDF government announced Rs 2 per k g rice scheme. (But in the past) five years, the government did not take any effective steps to tackle price rise,” the Minister of State for Power said.
If the LDF thought it could deflect the apathy of the voters by such election stunts, its leaders were living in “fool’s paradise”,Venugopal said.
A former MLA,Agasthy has been fielded by the Congress with the intention of wresting the seat in the plantation belt from sitting CPI MLA K S Bijimol.
