Left Front would be wiped out in this poll: Mamata

Phase four of West Bengal assembly polls will decide whether Mamata's Trinamool makes significant gains in the state.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday claimed that the Left Front would be wiped out after today’s fourth round of polling in the six-phase West Bengal Assembly elections.

Addressing a rally at Narayangarh in West Midnapur district where health minister Suryakanta Mishra of CPI(M) is pitted against Trinamool’s Kauser Ali in a crucial contest,Mamata did not guess the number of seats it would get out of the 63 for which polling is being held on Tuesday.

She had earlier claimed that out of 179 constituencies where elections had been held in the first three phases,170 seats would go to the Trinamool-Congress alliance,which was dismissed later by Left Front chairman Biman Bose.

This significant phase will not only decide which party will form the government but will also determine if the CPI(M)-led Left retains its strongholds or Trinamool-Congress alliance will make gains.

The Trinamool Congress’s challenge is to maintain the Lok Sabha tally. The party had made major gains in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in the four districts of Howrah,Hooghly,East Midnapur and Burdwan capturing six of the eight seats. “The Left Front rule will come to an end. People want a change from the Marxist misrule. We want a change and not revenge,” she told the rally.

Taking a dig at the health minister,Mamata said,”Will a man who cannot take care of his own constituency deliver services to the people?”
