Maya attacked on ‘Sonia garland’ issue

The BSP was slammed for releasing photographs of the Congress and BJP leaders donning currency garlands and gold crowns.

Opposition parties on Thursday lashed out at the BSP,which released photographs of its leaders donning currency garlands and gold crowns, describing it as a “futile bid” to justify the presentation of a multi-crore garland to Mayawati at the party’s ‘maharally’ here.

Senior BSP leader Naseemuddin Siddiqui on Thursday came out with an old photograph of Congress President Sonia Gandhi wearing a garland of currency notes. He also released photographs of BJP leader L K Advani with a golden crown and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav holding a silver club.

“Sonia Gandhi does not require anyone’s certificate as all are aware that she is in public life neither for power nor money,” Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh said.

“Those releasing some photograph of her in which she is seen with a garland with few currency notes should know that this cannot divert people’s attention from the real issue of the multi-crore garland offered to Mayawati,” he said.

Speaking on the issue,BJP state unit president Hriday Narain Dixit said the two things (Advani’s crown and Mayawati’s currency garland) cannot be compared.

“We demand that BSP tell the people about the sources of the multi-crore garland which was offered to Mayawati,” Dixit said.

Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said BSP cannot divert attention from the issue through these gimmicks as people know that through the garland, the party leaders had tried to convert their black money into white.
