Models being studied for quota for Muslims: Khurshid

Amid demands for reservation for Muslims ahead of UP assembly election,Union Minister Salman Khurshid said various models were being studied for quota within quota for the community.

Amid demands for reservation for Muslims ahead of Uttar Pradesh assembly election,Union Minister Salman Khurshid today said various models were being studied for quota within quota for the community.

“As I sit here,secretaries in Delhi are studying various models for preparing draft for quota within quota for Muslims in keeping with court guidelines,” he said.

Discussions in this regard were on,Khurshid said on the sidelines of a function organised at the local Unity College here.

Stressing that the actual quantum of quota had not been decided,he said the Sachchar Committee had recommended six per cent quota for Muslims.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati,on September 17,wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh requesting him to provide reservation to minorities,especially Muslims,in accordance with their population.

To a question on Congress manifesto for the upcoming UP Assembly election,Khurshid,who is also the chairman of the manifesto committee,said it would be a good one.
