Omar Abdullah welcomes FDI in retail

'm amazed that the defenders of federalism want to decide what is good for my state: Omar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday backed the Centre’s move to leave the decision on allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector to the respective state governments.

“I’m glad the government has announced FDI in retail and left to states to decide,” Omar said on microblogging site Twitter.

Criticising the chief ministers opposing the decision,he asked,“Why should (West Bengal Chief Minister) Mamata (Banerjee) or (UP Chief Minister) Akhilesh Yadav decide what is bad or good for J&K?

“I’m amazed that the defenders of federalism want to decide what is good for my state only because they have more MPs and can shout louder,” he said.

Omar said the demand for a roll back of the Centre’s decision,“What is only an enabling provision, denies us the chance to decide for ourselves.”
