Only a magic wand can restrain soaring inflation: Joshi

Joshi says even Finance Ministry and Commerce Ministry have expressed their "helplessness" in checking price rise.

Centre has failed in checking the rising inflation, and now,it can be reined in only by a “magic wand,” senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said on Sunday.

“The Centre has totally failed in checking the rising inflation and even their claim that the country will achieve a growth rate of 9 per cent too proved to be wrong. Now,it seems only a magic wand can check it,” Joshi said.

“Earlier, the government had claimed that the country would achieve a growth rate of 9 per cent, but later revised it to 8.25 per cent. But the way things are going on it would be around 7.75 per cent, which again is not likely to happen due to the rising inflation,” he said.

Joshi claimed that even the Planning Commission,Finance Ministry and Commerce Ministry, who have direct role in controlling escalating prices, have expressed their “helplessness” in checking the price rise.

He said the production in the country had been affected due to Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) monetary policy in the last quarter and there is no scope of improvement in it even in the current quarter.

The senior leader advised the government to prepare a clear road map for the country’s policies by taking into account commerce, monetary, finance, supply, production and price aspects to check the rising inflation as RBI alone would not be able to do so.

Meanwhile, when asked about the alleged closeness of several BJP leaders with the slain RTI activist Shehla Masood, who was allegedly murdered in her car outside her residence,Joshi said,”Let the probe agencies complete their work and submit the chargesheet against any leader. Then, only the party will take a stand on the issue.”
