Coming down heavily on UP Chief Minister Mayawati, the Opposition today said the huge increase in her wealth from Rs 52 crore to Rs 88 crore in three years was indicative of massive corruption in the state and demanded a CBI probe into her sources of income. The assets declared by the BSP supremo in an affidavit yesterday while filing nomination for upcoming biennial Vidhan Parishad elections did not include her entire property, the opposition leaders in the state said. Talking to reporters in Etawah,Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav demanded a CBI probe into Mayawatis sources of income. The actual assets of the BSP chief were much more than Rs 88 crore, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly said. Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said the rise in Mayawatis assets could put the likes of Harshad Mehta (kingpin of securities-share market scam of 1992) and Abdul Karim Telgi (fake stamp paper scam kingpin) to shame. The declaration did not include her properties in her native Badalpur village and those of her kin, he said. The whooping increase in her assets in the past three years had raised the question whether she possessed a magic wand, the SP spokesman said. Terming the declaration made by the Chief Minister as just partial,Congress spokesman Subodh Srivastav said the tremendous increase in her wealth was indicative of massive corruption in the state ruled by her party. The Chief Minister stands totally exposed today. The people are well aware how she has earned the money, he said. The declaration comprised only the income which she (Mayawati) has managed to convert into white by showing them as donations by her supporters. The BJP in New Delhi had yesterday demanded a probe into BSP leaders sources of income. This is very painful for democracy that someones assets rise suddenly from Rs 52 crore to over Rs 88 crore, BJP chief spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad had told reporters. An affidavit filed by Mayawati yesterday showed she had assets valued at over 88 crore,an increase of nearly Rs 36 crore in the past three years. In the affidavit filed by her while contesting a Vidhan Parishad bypoll, she had said she had assets worth Rs 52 crore.
