RJD MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav and other campaigners and candidates facing serious criminal charges were directed by authorities in Purnia to report to their respective police stations twice every day till the polling day.
In his order,District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer (Purnia) Sridhar Cheru Bellu asked the police to ensure that the candidates and campaigners facing serious criminal charges turn up before the officers of their respective police stations twice in a day,official sources said.
“Close watch is also being kept on their movement in the constituency,” they said.
We have initiated the exercise to ensure free,peaceful and fair polls in the constituency going to poll in third phase on April 30,they said.
Pappu Yadav’s mother Shanti Priya (Independent) is pitted against BJP’s Udai Singh in this constituency. Yadav,senetnced to life imprisonment in the CPI(M) MLA Ajit Sarkar murder case,is now out on bail and is campaigning for his mother in Purnia. His wife and sitting MP Ranjit Ranjan is contesting from Supaul parliamentary constituency.
