Is the Emergency back ? asks senior BJP leader L K Advani on his blog on the issue of tapping of phones of politicians while demanding enactment of a new legislation to protect citizens’ privacy.

Writing on his blog titled ‘Is the Emergency Back’,Advani referred to a report in ‘Outlook’ magazine which claimed that Government was making use of the latest phone tapping technology to prepare records of telephonic conversations of prominent leaders like Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,Union Minister Sharad Pawar,CPI-M leader Prakash Karat and Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh.

The phone tapping issue is expected to be raised in Parliament tomorrow by the Opposition.

Advani said the 1885 Indian Telegraph Act should be scrapped and replaced by a new legislation which forbids invasion of an ordinary citizen’s privacy.
