While in most cases the victims had blamed SP men,Mulayam Singh Yadav and son Akhilesh Yadav had alleged that their party was being framed. Akhilesh had added: We have not yet taken over. The officers appointed by the Mayawati government are still there, let them take action.
As Akhilesh completed one month as Chief Minister yesterday, the police are yet to arrest the accused in two of the three worst incidents of violence, where four persons lost their lives, while the SP leader named in the third is now a minister. The case file so far:
BHIM NAGAR,March 6: Twelve-year-old Daniyal,a student of Class IV,was reportedly killed when supporters of SP leader Iqbal Mehmood fired gunshots at Bolaki ka Chauraha to celebrate his victory from Sambhal. An FIR was lodged against three persons at the Naksha police station, but no one has been arrested so far. Station Officer Desh Pal Singh said investigation is on,but Daniyals father Kasim charged the police with not arresting the accused because of political pressure. We named three persons in the FIR,they are roaming free. Daniyal was with his elder brother Kasif when the incident took place,he is witness to the incident, Kasim said.
Asked why the accused had not been arrested,Bhim Nagar SP Tehsildar Singh said he had joined on April 1 and would have to check the records.
AGRA,March 8: Munna Lal,a Dalit, who had reportedly spurned SP candidate Aridaman Singh when he sought votes, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob of over 50 men at Parvatipura village in Agra district. Nine people from the village and other unidentified persons were mentioned in the FIR lodged at the Wah police station, which named Singh, the newly-elected MLA from Bah,as a conspirator.
While Aridaman Singh has since become Transport Minister,no one has been arrested for Lals murder. The victims nephew,Daya Shankar, alleged that the police were under political pressure. The family claims Singh had threatened to teach Munna Lal a lesson. The police, however, have ruled out the ministers involvement, saying cellphone records showed he was not present at the spot of the crime.
While investigating officer Siddharth admitted that nobody had been arrested,he said: We have obtained non-bailable warrants against nine villagers. According to him,no one backed the allegation that the murder was the fallout of a dispute between Lal and Aridaman Singh.
FIROZABAD,March 6: Shanu (22) and Subhan (10) reportedly died when SP workers clashed with the police after party candidate Azim Bhai lost to the BJPs Manish Asija. Supporters of Azim Bhai alleged that the administration had helped the BJP candidate and demanded a recount. They squatted on the highway and police had to resort to firing to bring the situation under control.
Shanu, the breadearner of his family, had gone out to buy medicine for his mother when a plastic bullet hit him in the chest, killing him on the spot. Subhan was hit in the head and face by bricks while playing outside his house, and succumbed to his injuries some days later. Both incidents took place in Nagla Bati area.
An FIR was lodged against 13 persons, including Azim Bhai,at the Ramgarh police station, while around 50 people were identified during investigations. Twelve were arrested while prime accused Azim Bhai is at large. Shanus uncle Rashid Khan said the 12 arrested persons were not among those involved.
