An RJD leader, who had unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly polls from Supaul, was bludgeoned to death outside his home late Thursday night. The police have booked five people but no arrest has been made so far. The police said Ravindra Yadav, who had been helping Congress candidate Ranjeet Ranjan in the polls, was called out by some people from his house at midnight and was attacked with an iron rod. While the victim’s family alleged that Yadav was hit by a bullet, the police said prima facie investigation did not reveal bullet injury though they are awaiting the post-mortem reports. Former MP Ranjeet Ranjan alleged political conspiracy behind the killing and demanded a thorough investigation into the role of leaders from rival political parties. Hundreds of supporters of Ravindra Yadav staged protests and obstructed road traffic for three hours. Supaul Sadar police station incharge Indrajit Baitha said: “We have lodged an FIR against five people, including husband of a local sarpanch. Those named in the FIR are Ramjivak Yadav, Devnandan Yadav, Lal Babu Yadav, Umanath Yadav and Vijay Kumar Yadav, all local residents”. Baitha said there had been no lead on involvement of any local politician as being alleged. He said the case was lodged by the victim’s brother Jitendra Kumar, who had not named any politician. Supaul, that went to poll on April 24, saw a triangular contest between the Congress, BJP and JD(U) that had won the seat in 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Ranjeet Ranjan had finished second last time.
