There is no improvement in the neurological condition of former I&B minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, who has been undergoing treatment for paralysis in a city hospital for over two years.
“He is medically stable as he is no more dependent on any life support measures and is regularly mobilised on a wheelchair. But his neurological condition has been the same over the last few months,” said Dr Vineet Suri, consultant in neurology,Apollo hospital.
The 62-year-old minister was first admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on October 12,2008 after he suffered a stroke and paralysis but was shifted to Apollo Hospital nine days later for further neurological treatment.
The ailing minister’s wife Deepa Dasmunshi, also a Congress MP,said,”There is no improvement yet in his neurological condition nor has it deteriorated. But I am happy that he is out of life support system. He has gained weight over time. All his organs are intact. His sense organs need to get functional.”
In November 2009,Dasmunshi was temporarily moved to Dusseldorf,Germany, where he underwent stem cell therapy in an attempt to reverse some of the loss of brain functions caused by the stroke.
“It did not work wonders for him. Doctors who conducted the therapy had even come over to Delhi to see if it produced any results. But there was no positive outcome in the expected time period,” said Deepa,an MP from Raigunj in north Bengal.
