Even as the ruling BJP is leaving no stone unturned to defuse the political crisis in Karnataka, the Congress today said it was united and happy to be in the opposition.
Rubbishing reports about the likelihood of some of its MLAs joining the BJP as gossip and false information,Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President R V Deshpande told reporters,We are united. All my 73 MLAs are with us. The instructions from the high command are clear-do not fish in troubled waters. We are not here to dislodge the government. If they are falling on their own,we cannot help it, he said.
We are happy to be in the opposition and we will do our constitutional duty in a democracy, Deshpande said.
The 28-month-old B S Yeddyurappa ministry plunged into crisis after 18 MLAs withdrew support yesterday prompting Governor H R Bhardwaj to ask the Chief Minister to prove his majority in the state Assembly before October 12.
