Will remain with UPA unless humiliated: Mamata

"I am not angry. I can't disclose entire story to the press," she said.

Notwithstanding her pin-pricks to the government over various issues,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today said she was committed to the UPA and would remain with it unless it is humiliated or “they throw us out”.

She,however, made it clear that if her party is humiliated, she would have to take a “decision”,apparently referring to the continuance of support to the UPA government.

“There are some issues… I am not angry. I can’t disclose the entire story to the press. I am with a particular alliance. I can’t comment against that. There is decorum in

democratic system,” Mamata told a news channel.

Pointing out that every political party has some political commitment to the people, the West Bengal Chief Minister said “I am only committed to keep my commitment also.”

Asked whether she would withdraw support to the government, she said “I am committed to UPA-II because we had contested the election together. I want to keep my manifesto promise. Unless, until they throw us out,we would continue with respect, whatever they may give to us.”

At the same time, she added,”if there is humiliation, you have to take a decision. Until there is humiliation,we will abide by our commitment.”

Her statement assumes significance as she has been repeatedly giving headaches to the government by opposing various measures like NCTC,FDI in retail, fuel price and railway fare hike.

Mamata hints at displeasure over Cong putting up its candidate

Mamata Banerjee today hinted at her displeasure over Congress putting up a candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections from West Bengal noting that the party cannot win without the support of the Left Front.

“Without Left Front support, they (Congress) cannot win. Let us watch,” she told reporters here.

Banerjee said if there was an “understanding” between the Congress and the Left, then it could happen for “bigger things”. “This is not good,” she remarked.

Her comments came on a day when senior Congress leader Abdul Mannan today filed his papers from Champdani in Hooghly district of West Bengal giving rise to another bone of contention between the two allies.

Trinamool Congress has renominated union minister Mukul Roy and given tickets to three journalists.

A report from Kolkata quoted AICC leader R C Khuntia as ruling out the possibility of Mannan withdrawing his nomination.

Khuntia also said his party would neither indulge in horse trading nor take support from the Left Front.

On whether the Congress with 42 MLAs in the 294-member House would have enough numbers to see its candidate through,Khuntia said,”West Bengal has 26 per cent minority votes.

“Abdul Mannan has been nominated to give them representation. Those who are secular-minded and those who want him to go to the Rajya Sabha will surely vote for him. In the Rajya Sabha elections, there are second and third preference votes,” he said.912
