Kings XI Punjab’s maiden CLT20 appearance is turning out to a successful one. Chasing 175 against a formidable Barbobdos Tridents, KXIP came up with a stellar performance to beat the Caribbean side by four wickets — their second win on the trot.

It was KXIP’s IPL 7 star David Miller, who made the run-chase possible as he smashed an unbeaten 34-ball 46. Requiring three runs off the last four balls of the final over bowled by right-arm medium-pacer Jason Holder, South African Miller launched himself and hit a six over the wide long-off.

The run-chase would not have been possible without Akshar Patel’s unbeaten cameo knock of 23off just nine deliveries. After opener Manan Vohra (27), Wriddhiman Saha (14) and Glenn Maxwell (16) perished, Virender Sehwag (31) tried to do the rescue job but he was adjudged LBW off the bowling off Sri Lankan Jeewan Mendis. Ravi Rampaul removed Vohra and Maxwell. Captain George Bailey could just make seven runs and the last match hero Thesera Perera fell for a duck. At that point, KXIP were 131 for 6 in 16.3 overs. It looked a tough task at that point, but Miller and Patel combined well and slaughtered the West Indies outfit.

Earlier KXIP on winning the toss, put the Caribbean side in to bat. Sri Lankan Dilshan Munaveera’s 50 off 26 and an unbeaten 60 (42 balls) by Raymon Reifer propped up Barboados Tridents. For KXIP, pacer Parvinder Awana took three wickets but gave away 46 runs in his four overs.

Brief scores: Kings XI Punjab 178 for 6 (Miller 46*) beat Barbados Tridents 174 for 6 (Reifer 60*, Munaweera 50, Awana 3-46) by four
wicket.
