Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel will not cover Chennai Super Kings matches anymore during the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. This means that the spinner’s popular YouTube handles will not do any previews of games involving CSK or review the matches afterwards. Ashwin’s main YouTube handle has over 1.6 million subscribers. He also started a new channel called Ash ki Baat, which focuses on Hindi analysis.
“Given the nature of the discussions on this forum over the last week, we want to be mindful of how things can be interpreted and have chosen to step away from covering CSK games, both previews and reviews, for the rest of this season. We value the diversity of perspectives that come through on our shows and remain committed to ensuring the conversation stays true to the integrity and purpose of the platform we’ve established. The views expressed by our guests do not reflect Ashwin’s personal opinions,” Ashwin posted on his YouTube community page.
The post stated that this comes because of a controversy last week when one of the guests on Ashwin’s channel — Prasanna Agoram, who is a former data analyst for South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) — criticised CSK’s move to pick Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad, despite the five-time champions having Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad.
The video was reportedly taken down after it attracted plenty of criticism on social media.
Chennai Super Kings are in the middle of a wretched run in the IPL where they have lost their last three games on the trot after beating Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 opener.
Even CSK coach Stephen Fleming was asked about the players having their YouTube channel after their loss to Delhi Capitals. Fleming seemed to be caught off guard by the suggestion that opinions on YouTube channels can make things awkward in the dressing room.
“I have no idea,” Fleming had shrugged. “I didn’t even know he [Ashwin] had a channel, so I don’t follow that stuff. That’s irrelevant.”
