India among markets powering Apple’s Q1 growth, Cook says will continue to invest in technologies that shape future

Powered by December quarter records in India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Chile, Apple has posted quarterly revenue of $119.6 billion, up 2% year over year. CEO Tim Cook attributed this revenue growth to “iPhone sales, and an all-time revenue record in Services.”

“We are pleased to announce that our installed base of active devices has now surpassed 2.2 billion, reaching an all-time high across all products and geographic segments.”

In the earnings call, Cook said India grew “strong double-digits in the December quarter and hit a quarter revenue record”. He added: “And that theme has been pretty consistent across the other quarters that — of the year as well. And so, emerging markets, very, very important. And I feel like we are doing a great job there.”

Underlining how many enterprises across the world were adoption Apple products, Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO, cited the case of Indian tech major Zoho. The company, he said, “offers its 15,000 plus global employees a choice of devices, with 80% of their workforce using iPhone for work and nearly two-thirds of them choosing Mac as their primary computer”.

Underlining the excitement around the release of the Apple Vision Pro, Cook said: “Moments like these are what we live for at Apple. They’re why we do what we do. They’re why we’re so unflinchingly dedicated to groundbreaking innovation and why we’re so focused on pushing technology to its limits as we work to enrich the lives of our users.”

The Apple CEO said the company will continue to “invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future… that includes artificial intelligence where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year.”

He said there is already so much excitement around the Apple Vision Pro from reviewers, customers, and developers. “They are praising everything from the incredible experience of watching a movie on a 100-foot screen to remarkable new machine learning capabilities like hand tracking and room mapping. We can’t wait for people to experience the magic for themselves.”
